Biomechanical Assessment and Gait Analysis
Find the exact cause of foot, ankle, knee, hip or back pain.
Biomechanical Assessment and Gait Analysis
Sometimes, injury and pain occurs for no known reason and just won’t go away. Or you recover and then along comes another issue!
This is where the Biomechanical Assessment and Gait Analysis fits in, aiming to find a solution by understanding the exact cause of foot, ankle, knee, hip or back pain.
The Biomechanics Centre at the Westoe Practice is a centre of excellence in the field of Biomechanics and is run by Dean Glozier, Sports and MSK Podiatrist, Biomechanics and Functional Movement specialist who has 30 years of clinical experience. Dean is passionate about his work and continues to this day to study alongside the leaders in the industry. Dean has helped over 16,000 people on their road to recovery.

How does it work?
Dean will carry out a comprehensive assessment of the structure, alignment, movement and function of your entire body, paying particular attention to the spine, pelvis, legs, ankles and feet.
Joint by joint, muscle by muscle, neural and myofascial assessment aims to reveal why you are in pain, why injuries may be recurring or how you can optimise your ability to enjoy life with your body working for you… optimally.
A comprehensive movement assessment will highlight any compensation patterns and areas of weakness. Using video gait analysis, slow motion movements are captured and a digital foot scanner records foot pressure data and center of mass indicating functional imbalances during standing, walking, and running.
A Biomechanical Assessment with Dean integrates his in depth knowledge of the body having trained extensively in numerous therapeutic modalities, his acute intuition and 31 years of hands on experience in a subject he is passionate about.
Treatment
Treatment is focused on improving movement patterns with a whole-body approach, restoring joint alignment and muscle function. Utilising hands on techniques, joint mobilisation and manipulation, muscle function corrections, release and activations, footwear guidance, corrective functional exercise and injury rehab.
In some instances foot Orthotics may be used if required and Dean incorporates a minimalistic technique, working closely with the lab to create devices that make the smallest correction necessary, encouraging the body to reestablish balance and optimal function.
Custom fit Orthotics
Poor foot function can often play a role in movement and postural dysfunction leading to pain in your feet, knees, hips, or back. Think of your feet like the keyboard of a computer. Input as each foot interacts with the ground sends a series of messages throughout the complex musculoskeletal system. Your feet tell the body how to move. When the feet lack strength, stability or movement is in any way inhibited then the body compensates.
When orthotics are needed we have several options depending on the overall goal. Most importantly we can provide what we believe to be the highest quality devices in the industry at a price that is affordable.
Foot overpronation is not the real issue, it is the speed at which the foot overpronates and this is why we combine orthotics with a comprehensive exercise program to reestablish strength and tensegrity. For many this can mean orthotics are only a temporary measure.
