What are the Vertigo, Dizziness, BPPV Therapies
By the age of 65 around 85% of the population have experienced dizziness or vertigo at some point in their life- it has a profound effect on how we go about our day-to-day life and even simple tasks such as showering and changing a light bulb can become quite dangerous not to mention more complex tasks such as driving.
We find our balance by feeling the earth beneath us using our feet, eyes, working in tandem with the Vestibular system- which is the primary sensory system for balance and spatial orientation located in the inner ear which detects head motion, position, movement speed, allowing for stable posture, coordinated movement, and clear vision. If there is a problem with any one of these areas, we often start to experience vertigo or dizziness.
Our therapist can assess and offer various techniques, such as the Epley Maneuver to help people who are suffering from BPPV and vertigo symptoms.

How can it help me?
The good news is that almost all cases of vertigo and dizziness can be effectively treated.
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), is the most common cause of dizziness, and can be resolved in just one or two sessions. Other forms of vertigo can require more treatment but on an average of just two or three visits.
A typical session
We will start with a consultation, go through your medical history and discuss your medications to make sure dizziness isn’t a side-effect. Then we will assess how your eyes, ears, and brain work together through a series of eye and neck movements both standing and lying down. We may also take your blood pressure, as well as show you videos and moving images or ask you to move around.
We will then go through the findings of the assessment and offer a bespoke treatment plan based on these.
We will work together to create better coordination between your inner ear, eyes, and the feeling of the ground beneath your feet, stabilising you and allowing you to return to your life as normal.
Do I need to prepare for the session?
Due to the nature of dizziness, some treatment can temporarily exacerbate your symptoms for a short period which in some rare cases upset your stomach, we ask that you only have a light meal before treatment.
We ask that you wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.
