Nutritional Therapy

We support you to enhance your health and well being

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy uses a detailed understanding of human biochemistry and lifestyle behaviours that contribute to common health complaints and poor quality of life.
By nourishing our bodies, and giving it the life giving nutrients it relies on, and by understanding how our daily habits can undermine or underpin your health, you’re on the first step back to a happy, healthy body and mind.

The practice is rooted in Functional Medicine which sees the individual holistically, that body systems such as hormones, immune system, nervous system etc all affect each other, rather than working in isolation.  This applies just as much to our mental health as to our
physical health.

How can it help you?

Nutritional therapy is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health and well being.

We consider each individual to be ‘unique’ and recommends a personalized nutrition and lifestyle programme rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. In this way therapists view wellness in terms of physical, mental and the spiritual balance of a person’s health.

Nutritional therapists can work alongside a medical professional and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in the client’s care to explain any nutritional therapy programme that has been provided.

If you are not sure if Nutritional therapy can help you- please give us a call on 0191 425 0101 or email info@westoepractice.com with you contact details and the Nutritional Therapist will contact you for a free no obligation consultation to discuss whether they can help.

Professional advice for optimal health has to take account of unique dietary and nutritional needs. Below is a list of conditions it can help (please note this list is not exhaustive).

Nutritional Therapy Consultations – What to Expect

You will be asked to complete a health questionnaire and return this latest 2 days before your first appointment, which will last 60 mins.  Your practitioner will assess and review your:

During the session a tailored plan covering lifestyle, foods and nutrients, and if appropriate nutritional supplements and recommendations for functional testing.  A written health action plan will be sent to you within 48 hours of your consultation.

The therapeutic relationship between practitioner and client is a powerful supportive force, in contrast to the time poor approach in conventional medicine. We talk through what you want to achieve, and agree realistic, achievable goals tailored to your lifestyle, with support from beginning to end of your journey with us.

Payment plans are available- please speak to a member of the admin team (0191 425 0101 or info@westoepractice.com) for further information.

Metabolic health – Finger prick or venous blood draw – £125

Are you at risk of metabolic disease, (diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure) or worried about your long term health?  This test analyses HbA1c (blood sugars), Total Cholesterol, LDL, HDL, Triglycerides, TSH, Free T3, Free T4, (Thyroid) and common nutritional deficiencies Ferritin (iron), Vitamin D, Vitamin B12,  and Folate (B9).

Nutritional deficiencies
– Method varies – £POA

Shortfalls in our diet, inability to absorb, medication side effects or simply needing more than ‘average’ can result in symptoms caused by lack of nutrients. Commonly, the B vitamins, Vitamin D, iron, zinc, magnesium and fatty acids are implicated in poor health

Digestive health – Stool analysis £150-£350

Our ‘poo’ can help us understand what’s going on in our digestive tract. Infections, inflammation, parasites and yeasts, the state of our gut bacteria – friend and foe, short chain fatty acids, and immune markers can speed up resolution of your symptoms.

Digestive health – Intolerance and allergies – £130-£300

Food intolerances (IgG) and Allergies (IgE) can be a common cause of digestive distress, in particular gluten and lactose. We can also look at intestinal barrier function, histamine levels and coeliac diagnosis.

Hormones: Sex hormones – urine analysis– £240

Our sex hormones have a huge influence on our systemic health. This test shows estrogen, progesterone and testosterone and how they are being broken down in the body, alongside the master hormone DHEA, and cortisol, our stress hormone. Markers for Vitamin B6, B12, melatonin (sleep hormone) and oxidative stress complete the picture.

Hormones: Stress levels – saliva test -£85

Stress and burnout can give rise to a host of symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, sugar cravings, insomnia, dizzy spells, headaches, infections, sleep disturbance, anxiety and depression. By measuring our cortisol over 24 hours, we can assess whether this is a driving force of dysfunction.

Hormones: Thyroid function– finger prick or venous blood draw – £80-£150

Our thyroid sets our metabolism, how fast or slow our entire body runs. You may not always be offered a full thyroid panel with your GP. TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Total T4, Total T3, Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPO), Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TGA), Reverse T3 (rT3) and T3 Uptake are possible to determine if this is a root cause of weight problems, fatigue, digestive issues, temperature control, and more.

Instead of treating an individual symptom, Nutritional therapists focus on the person as a whole. This can result in the relief of several diseases and is very effective against depression, eczema, IBS, IBD, autoimmune conditions, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and many more conditions.

Nutritional Therapy is a common treatment for chronic illnesses although many of its techniques are also particularly effective against acute conditions including fevers and colds.

Everyone can benefit from nutritional therapy, regardless of age, fitness or general health. Because a full case history is taken and a unique programme is developed, nutritional therapy really does act as a tailor-made solution.

Our team of highly skilled therapists are here to support and guide you on your journey towards optimum health, fitness and wellbeing.
